Brand colors & fonts for Restaurants

A restaurant brand has to work on a sign across the street, a menu in candlelight and a phone screen at 6pm when someone decides where to eat.

Choosing a brand for your restaurant

Color

Reds, oranges and warm yellows stimulate appetite and energy; deep greens suggest fresh and seasonal. Choose one signature color for your storefront and delivery packaging, and make sure menu text has strong contrast in low light.

Typography

Let your cuisine set the voice: an elegant serif for fine dining, a condensed poster face for burgers and street food. Always pair it with a highly readable body font for menus.

Common mistake

Too many colors on a menu competes with the food. Two brand colors plus a neutral is usually enough.

Your restaurant brand checklist

  • One primary color, used everywhere. Website, signage, social and packaging should all lead with it.
  • Text that passes WCAG AA (4.5:1). Use the text-safe shade of your brand color for links and small text.
  • A logo that works in one color. You’ll need it for stamps, embroidery, vinyl and fax-quality prints.
  • Two fonts, no more. One with personality for headings, one built for reading.
  • A written brand guide. Exact color codes and fonts, shared with anyone who designs for you.
